# Disputing

If you notice a pending proposal that appears incorrect, you can dispute it before it becomes final.

### What is disputing?

Disputing is challenging a proposal by posting a bond equal to the proposer's bond.

If the dispute succeeds, the disputer receives the applicable reward. If the proposal is upheld, the disputer loses their bond.

### Why does it matter?

Disputes prevent incorrect proposals from becoming final and resolving markets incorrectly.

### Who can dispute?

Anyone can dispute a pending proposal during its challenge period.

You do not need to submit an alternative outcome or provide a reason when disputing. You are only challenging the existing proposal.

### How to dispute a proposal <a href="#how-to-dispute-a-proposal" id="how-to-dispute-a-proposal"></a>

To dispute a proposal:

1. Go to the market's Rules section.
2. Click **Dispute resolution** to open the UMA Oracle.
3. Submit the dispute and approve the required bond.
